More than four decades ago, Max Heller—a Holocaust survivor, Greenville mayor, and passionate community builder—helped establish what is today the Jewish Federation of Upstate South Carolina. He believed in a thriving Jewish life in the South, grounded in compassion, education, service, and above all, connection.

Today, that vision lives on.

As more families, individuals, and young professionals make their home in Upstate South Carolina, the demand for meaningful Jewish life, accessible resources, and community connection is greater than ever. The Upstate has blossomed a dynamic growing Jewish community.

We are proud of our progress. Yet to keep the momentum—and ensure our Jewish future is vibrant, inclusive, and strong—we need your partnership.

Meeting the Needs of a Growing Community

Upstate South Carolina is one of the fastest-growing areas in the Southeast. Every month, new families arrive—looking not only for good schools and economic opportunity but for meaningful ways to engage with Jewish life. The Jewish Federation of Upstate South Carolina is the central hub for Jewish life in our region. Our mission is to sustain and strengthen our Jewish community through service, education, cultural enrichment, and support at every stage of life. We are guided by our values, rooted in Jewish tradition, and driven by a commitment to inclusivity and impact.

But we cannot do this without you.

To meet the growing demands of our community, we are launching an ambitious—but achievable—campaign to raise $150,000 for 2025. This is part of our broader goal of $250,000 annually, with every dollar raised staying local unless designated otherwise. Your investment ensures our ability to grow, reach more people, and deliver on the promise of Jewish life in the Upstate.
